William J. Hoffmann
William J. Hoffmann, one of the founding partners of Grotefeld, Hoffmann, Schleiter, Gordon & Ochoa, LLP, has been engaged in the subrogation industry for over 15 years and specializes in products liability, large property loss and complex litigation.
Bill has extensive trial and arbitration experience and serves as national counsel for one of the largest insurance companies where he handles all product liability claims under ADR agreements against three of the largest market share home product manufacturers.
Early on, Bill worked for State Farm Fire & Casualty Company in the company's first fire subrogation department as a Subrogation Specialist. He left State Farm to work for one of the nation's largest subrogation law firms as an attorney. In 2000, Bill became a managing partner of the subrogation department of a prominent Chicago-area law firm.
Bill earned his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, IL in 1993. He attended Wolsey Hall in Oxford, England, earning his Bachelor of Arts from Lake Forest College in 1989. Bill was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1993. In addition, he has been admitted to three US District Courts, including the Northern District of Illinois (1993), the Central District of Illinois (2004) and the Southern District of Illinois (2006).
Bill is a member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP) and serves as the Co-chair of the Illinois Chapter of NASP. He is also a member of the Electric Blanket Group of the American Association for Justice, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Kane County Bar Association. His article, Failure to Warm, Failure to Warm, was published in the Product Liability Newsletter of the American Association for Justice (Vol. 13, No. 3, Spring 2008).
