William J. Hoffmann
Founding Partner
William Hoffmann is a founding member of the firm. He has been engaged in the subrogation industry for over twenty years with a concentration in product liability and consolidation of claims matters for the insurance industry.
Mr. Hoffmann attended college at Wolsey Hall, Oxford, England, and graduated from Lake Forest College in 1989. He then graduated from The John Marshall Law School in 1993. Mr. Hoffmann's experience includes working for State Farm Fire & Casualty Company in the company's first fire subrogation department in Lombard, Illinois. After becoming licensed, Mr. Hoffmann transitioned from State Farm to working for one of the nation's largest subrogation law firms as an attorney.
Mr. Hoffmann's litigation experience is quite extensive prosecuting thousands of subrogation claims including several multi-million dollar large fire losses. His litigation experience includes prosecuting subrogation matters, insurance coverage issues, and casualty claims. Mr. Hoffmann has tried several cases to verdict.
During the year 2000, Mr. Hoffmann became a managing partner of the subrogation department of a prominent Chicago area law firm. In June of 2007, Mr. Hoffmann joined practices with Mark Grotefeld establishing Grotefeld & Hoffmann, LLP. Currently, Mr. Hoffmann's practice specializes in products liability, large property loss and complex/consolidated litigation. He serves as national counsel for one of the largest insurance companies handling all product liability claims under ADR agreements against three of the largest market share home product manufacturers.
Mr. Hoffmann is the co-chair of the National Association of Subrogation Professional's (NASP) General Track for the National Conference, co-chair for the NASP Litigation Skills Conference and is also a member of the electric blanket group of the American Association for Justice. Mr. Hoffmann's recent publications include Failure to Warn, an article published in the Product Liability Newletter of the American Association for Justice Vol. 13, No. 3, Spring 2008.
